Producer Profile

Château Cissac is a Médoc classic- the property has been in the Vialard family for generations. Its reputation was first established  in the 1940s, winning a loyal following in the UK, and today Louis’ granddaughter Marie carries on the legacy with the same dedication to quality.

The wines of Cissac are everything lovers of traditional claret seek: structured yet elegant, firm yet fragrant, and consistently reliable year after year. 

The vineyards are dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon (75%), balanced with Merlot (20%) and Petit Verdot (5%), and aged with up to 40% new oak for added depth and finesse. The result? Timeless Médoc wines that beautifully capture both tradition and character.

    Neal Martin 90

    The 2019 Cissac has an attractive bouquet with ample blackberry, briary and subtle violet scents, hints of citrus fruit in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannins, good acidity and gentle grip with a classic graphite-infused finish that lingers in the mouth. This is a very fine Cissac that will give up to 20 years of drinking pleasure. It should end up at the top of my banded score, though I would like more personality to develop.     The 2019 Cissac offers up aromas of plums, currants, sweet soil tones and cigar box. Medium to full-bodied, bright and concentrated, it displays fine-grained but assertive tannins, tangy acids and fine length on the finish. More polished than the chewy, frequently austere Cissac wines of yesteryear, it will nevertheless require a bit of patience. [William Kelley, 25/02/2022]
