The esteemed Jean-Pierre Charlot handpicked Etienne Chaix as his successor at Domaine Joseph Voillot, and the decision has proven to be an inspired one. Under Etienne’s careful guidance, the Voillot wines continue to impress with their elegance, clarity, and a style that is unmistakably Burgundy. Jean-Pierre’s philosophy lives on: minimal intervention and a winemaking process that allows each vineyard site to fully express itself. With just 10% new oak, no fining, and the gentlest of filtrations, the wines retain their natural vibrancy and complexity, enhancing their already impressive quality.
Each cuvée showcases a unique sense of place, and even the Bourgogne Rouge, typically the domaine’s most accessible wine, is worth serious attention. The Volnay Caillerets, Volnay Champans, Pezerolles, Pommard Epenots, and Pommard Rugiens—all are crafted with Grand Cru precision and showmanship. These wines, as a range, are both expansive and refreshing, embodying an ‘aerien’ quality: they saturate the palate with intense, focused fruit while maintaining a weightless, breezy finish that leaves a lasting impression.
Neal Martin aptly describes them as “outstanding and soulful wines,” capturing the essence of what makes the Voillot portfolio exceptional. It’s a range that pays homage to Jean-Pierre’s legacy while heralding Etienne’s bright future. All hail Jean-Pierre—and now Etienne as well.
