Château La Nerthe’s story and that of Châteauneuf-du-Pape have been intertwined for five centuries, a relationship defined by history, land, and climate. The estate spreads across 92 hectares, divided into 57 individual plots, or “climats,” each with its own unique combination of soils, subsoils, and grape varieties — thirteen in total. While the estate enjoys a typically Mediterranean climate, the Mistral wind tempers the heat, and natural springs flowing on either side of the castle, along with nearly ten hectares of woodland and undergrowth, ensure freshness, balance, and rich biodiversity across the vineyards.
Generations of passionate winemakers have followed one another at La Nerthe, continually seeking the perfect match between vine, soil, and micro-terroir. When the Richard family acquired the estate in 1985, they set out to revive its historic values of excellence and innovation. They meticulously restored the castle, built a modern cellar, and expanded the vineyards in 1991 with exceptional parcels in La Crau, including old vines dating back to the late 19th century. Fully committed to sustainable practices, the estate was converted to organic farming and obtained Ecocert certification in 1998, reaffirming its pioneering spirit. Today, Château La Nerthe continues to craft wines of elegance, freshness, and authenticity — a living testament to centuries of heritage and the enduring voice of its unique terroir.
