Founded in 1676, Château de La Chaize is one of Beaujolais’ great historic estates, with 150 hectares of vineyards spread across Brouilly, Côte de Brouilly, Fleurie and Morgon. Since acquiring the property in 2017, owner Christophe Gruy has embarked on one of the region’s most ambitious sustainability projects, focused on reshaping the estate around long-term environmental stewardship and energy independence.
Today, all vineyards are organically certified, supported by regenerative farming practices including cover crops, natural fertilisers and winter sheep grazing. Alongside extensive reforestation and biodiversity initiatives across the wider estate, Château de La Chaize has invested heavily in renewable energy, water recycling and low-intervention winery infrastructure. The historic 18th-century cellars have been restored, while a modern gravity-fed winery has been built underground to minimise energy use and reduce mechanical intervention throughout the winemaking process.
The estate’s wines have quickly gained critical recognition, particularly the Brouilly Estate Monopole cuvées, which have received scores of up to 95 points for their balance of dark fruit, spice and mineral freshness. Their Fleurie bottlings, meanwhile, capture the appellation’s famously elegant and floral character, offering a more lifted and refined expression of Beaujolais. Across both critics and consumers alike, Château de La Chaize has built a strong reputation for producing vibrant, approachable wines with precision, energy and consistency.
Combining centuries of history with a deeply progressive outlook, Château de La Chaize has become one of the most forward-thinking estates in Beaujolais.
