Pierre Moncuit’s Blanc de Blancs cuvée is an extremely fresh, airy champagne produced in one of the region’s most prestigious terroirs. On the nose, it offers an initially fruity bouquet, with citrus notes, then moving towards more mineral, chalky aromas. There is a lively, direct attack in the mouth. The same tart citrus aromas are found mid-palate, harmoniously accompanied by a remarkable mineral character and silky texture. It finishes with great length and slightly iodine notes. Moncuit is one of those growers I never hear much about, and yet the wines are consistently outstanding and delicious. I tend to favor the entry-level wines, but only because they offer so much quality for the money, something that is increasingly hard to find in Champagne. The Delos Blanc de Blancs is one of the great values in Champagne. The wines are all done in tank, with full malolactic fermentation, and bottled with low dosage.
