Here the reduction is sufficient to overshadow the fruit. There is even better volume to the sleek and delicious middleweight flavors that are less mineral-driven but more powerful and slightly more persistent and bone-dry finish that is also exceptionally well-balanced. This is excellent and I would go so far as to observe that it’s the best vintage for the Clavoillon in a long time. It is typically considered to be less interesting than the other 1ers (and not without reason) in the Leflaive portfolio and while it doesn’t surpass them in 2021, it is most impressive nonetheless. Domaine Leflaive is a renowned winery located in the village of Puligny-Montrachet in Burgundy. It is recognised as one of the legendary producers of white wines in Burgundy and is known for its exceptional Chardonnay wines.
The domain owns and cultivates some of the most prestigious vineyards in Puligny-Montrachet, including multiple premiers and grand cru sites. Their vineyards, such as Les Pucelles, Les Combettes, and the iconic Montrachet are renowned for producing high-quality chardonnay grapes. The winemaking at Domaine Leflaive reflects a combination of tradition and innovation. The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted to ensure the selection of the best fruit. Anne-Claude Leflaive played a significant role in shaping the direction of the domain. She became one of the pioneers of biodynamic viticulture in Burgundy, implementing organic and biodynamic farming practices in the vineyards.
In contrast to the other great Burgundian winemakers, Domaine Leflaive owns 25 hectares which allows it to produce 120,000 bottles per year. It is therefore not that difficult to get a bottle, as long as you can afford it! The Grand Crus of Domaine Leflaive can start at £1200 per bottle and the prices vary according to the vintage.
