Producer Profile
Château Cheval Blanc
The most famous estate in Saint-Émilion, Château Cheval Blanc was First Growth before classification existed, yet recently defied definition to withdraw from the same categorisation and continue carving its own unique path to almost legendary status.
Located in the north-west of the Saint-Émilion appellation, bordering Pomerol (with which it shares its varied soil), the vineyard is spread over 41-hectares planted primarily with Cabernet Franc and Merlot, but also produces Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon.
A recipient of the prestigious rank of Premier Grand Cru Classé (A), this iconic château has even found its infamous wine popularised in film productions, from James Bond to the likes of Sideways and Disney’s Ratatouille.
Our Verdict:
One of the great wines of the world, never mind Bordeaux. Its unique cépage near Pomerol and the significant effort by its investors have coincided with higher temperatures to make the most of its natural advantages in location!
