Producer Profile
Chateau Ausone
Set amongst the unique limestone plateau above Saint-Émilion, Château Ausone dates back to the 18th century and enjoys a picturesque east/south-easterly aspect, sheltered amongst ancient stone terraces dating back to Roman times.
This 7 hectare vineyard, with a recent history of being ranked Premier Grand Cru Classé A, can claim a unique benefit of being small and exclusive enough to be harvested at the optimal time in just 2 afternoons. The estate produces Cabernet Franc and Merlot, due to their sand and clay in limestone terroir.
Château Ausone appointed renowned oenologist Michel Rolland in 2002 as their consultant winemaker.
Our Verdict:
As great as it is different from Cheval Blanc, Ausone is arguably considered to produce the finest Merlot in St- Émilion.
