Tasting Notes

The Castello di Bolgheri 2021 Bolgheri Superiore is a classic expression from the region and is a wine you can look upon as a measuring stick for vintage variation along the Tuscan Coast. The 2021 growing season is endowed with power, richness and density. There is harmony here, but the wine definitely leaves a bold impression that is marked with black fruit, toasted spice and campfire ember. The blend is 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc and 5% Merlot, and 35,000 bottles were made.
Anticipated maturity: 2025-2038

Still a little introspective, this is a wine of great concentration but also finesse, with a guaranteed future. Intense, savoury-sour wild berry aromas accompany a palate demonstrating depth of fruit, refined, fine-knit tannins, and a long, complex aromatic finish with a return of myrtle berry and wild herbs. While you’re waiting for this to evolve, the vintages to drink now from this top Bolgheri estate are the 2015 and 2016.
Anticipated maturity: 2026-2036
