Emmanuel Rouget is the nephew of Henri Jayer, the legendary Burgundian vintner. Rouget worked closely with his uncle and learned the art of winemaking from him. After Jayer’s retirement, Rouget took over the family’s vineyards and continued his uncle’s legacy of producing exceptional wines.
This domain is in Vosne-Romanée in the region of Côte de Nuits in Burgundy. The 6.3-hectare estate has holdings in some of the most esteemed vineyards, including Cros Parantoux, Les Beaux Monts, and Les Brûlées. He follows meticulous vineyard practices, including hand-harvesting and organic farming methods, to ensure the highest quality of grapes. In the cellar, Rouget uses minimal intervention and traditional winemaking techniques, including gentle extraction and ageing in French oak barrels, to allow the grapes’ natural expression to shine through.
In 2018, Jayer’s (and Rouget’s) last 1,064 remaining bottles were sold at auction for a total price of 30 million euros. The bottles of Domaine Emmanuel Rouget are one of the most searched-for wines in the world and prices can reach very high levels. His 2016 Vosne-Romanée Cros Parantoux has become one of the most sought-after and expensive wines in the world, selling for over 40,000 euros a case.
