Aromas of red berries, plums, rose petals, sweet spices and forest floor introduce the 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux Saint-Jacques, a medium to full-bodied, velvety and seamless wine that’s layered and concentrated, with a vibrant core of fruit and a long, penetrating finish. The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux Saint-Jacques 1er Cru contains 30% whole bunch with 50% new oak. It has a vibrant, tightly wound bouquet with wet limestone/petrichor scents complementing the shimmering black cherry and orange zest scents. The palate is medium-bodied with smooth tannins, fine acidity, veering more towards the red fruit profile with a pinch of brown spices on the finish. Long in the mouth, very classy. Denis Mortet was born in 1966 and took over his family’s winery, Domaine Charles Mortet, in 1993. He worked alongside his father, Charles, before eventually assuming full control of the estate. Denis Mortet’s winemaking approach was influenced by his father, and he further elevated the domain’s reputation through his meticulous vineyard work and careful cellar practices. 
Domaine Denis Mortet is located in the village of Gevrey-Chambertin in the Côte de Nuits region of Burgundy. The 12-hectare domain owns and manages vineyards across various appellations, including Gevrey-Chambertin, Morey-Saint-Denis, and Chambolle-Musigny. Some notable vineyard holdings included Clos de Vougeot, Les Champeaux, and Les Chaffots. He employs meticulous sorting techniques to ensure only the highest quality grapes are used in his wines. The grapes are typically destemmed, and fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts. 
The domain produces around 65,000 bottles per year, and its wines have received widespread critical acclaim. They consistently garner high ratings from respected wine critics and publications, further solidifying the estate’s reputation for producing top-quality wines.
