Glass-staining ruby. A highly complex, expansive bouquet evokes fresh dark berries, olive paste, potpourri and incense, along with exotic spice and smoky mineral notes that build steadily with air. Sweet, focused and penetrating on the palate, offering intense, spice-accented cassis, boysenberry, cherry preserve, smoky bacon, olive and violet pastille flavors that are braced by a spine of juicy acidity. Melds concentration and energy with a sure hand and closes with resonating minerality and superb, youthfully tannic persistence. Sourced from two vineyards of mostly old vines at Tournon. Domaine Chapoutier was established by the Chapoutier family in 1808, in Tain-Hermitage in the northern Rhône valley. The current driving force behind Domaine Chapoutier is Michel Chapoutier, who took over the winery in 1990.
Domaine Chapoutier owns vineyards in some of the most prestigious appellations of the Rhône Valley, including Hermitage, Côte-Rôtie, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and Saint-Joseph, among others. Biodynamic practices prioritise the use of natural preparations, lunar cycles, and the integration of animals to enhance soil health and vine vitality. The winery cultivates a range of grape varieties, both red and white. In the northern Rhône, Syrah is the predominant red grape variety, while Marsanne and Roussanne are the primary white grape varieties.
Michel Chapoutier’s wines from the Rhône Valley are sold in many countries including Australia and Portugal, and they are among the most highly-acclaimed wines in the world.
