Producer Profile
Fontodi is an Italian estate in
the Chianti Classico region, set within a valley called the ‘Conca di Ora’ or
‘golden shell’, due to its amphitheatre shape. The estate has its own unique
microclimate and rests at high altitude near the village of Panzano.
Run by the Manetti family since 1968, Domiziano and Dino Manetti turned the
estate around after it had fallen on extremely hard times. They undertook a
huge renovation and replanting project, succeeding in creating a Chianti that
is today recognised as a classic from the region.
Certified Organic, shunning the use of chemicals and espousing a sustainable
approach to the maintenance of the estate and its 70 hectares of vines, Fontodi
is run today by Macro and Giovanni Manetti with Franco Bernabei acting as
consultant.
Fontodi’s flagship wine is the Chianti Classic of Sangiovese
and Canaiolo. Its Chianti Classico Riserva includes an amount of Cabernet
Sauvignon while its iconic Flaccinello della Pieve uses only Sangiovese grapes.
