Tasting Notes
Robert Parker 98
Vecina vineyard is located in the western foothills of Oakville, just to the southeast of the winery (up on Oakville Grade). A barrel sample, the 2018 Vecina displays a deep garnet-purple color and offers slowly emerging classic notes of black currants, black cherries, blackberry pie and cedar chest with hints of charcoal, tar, pencil lead and fragrant earth. The full-bodied palate has a rock-solid structure of firm, grainy tannins and tons of freshness supporting the generous black fruits, finishing on a lingering mineral note.

Vecina is coined from the Spanish word for neighbour. Vecina is situated directly south-east of the Bond winery in Oakville’s western foothills. The 11-acre site is on the border between Oakville and Yountville. The Vecina vineyard is comprised of volcanic bedrock overlain with fine-grained alluvial wash. The beautifully terraced volcanic soil slope of Vecina faces due east and is the recipient of cool morning sun. Vecina benefits from the cool air at night that comes up from San Pablo Bay, and also has long, warm afternoons. The vineyard’s elevation ranges from 221 to 330 feet. Intense, herbal notes on nose and palate. Great freshness allied with concentration and power. Lovely oak, leafy, complex, beautifully ripe and sweet fruit yet there is so much structure here that the wine feels like it will age for 20–30 years. Expensive but (probably) worth it. (AWH)
