Vietti wines are celebrated Italian Barolos crafted at the historic family-owned Vietti winery in Piedmont’s Langhe region. With roots dating back to the 19th century, this esteemed estate has earned global acclaim for its exceptional quality and steadfast dedication to traditional winemaking practices.
The estate’s rise to international acclaim can be traced back to 1952 when Alfredo Currado, husband of Luciana Vietti, made a groundbreaking decision to selectively vinify grapes from individual vineyards like Brunate, Rocche, and Villero, an audacious move at the time. This practice has since become widely adopted by numerous Barolo and Barbaresco winemakers, revolutionising the approach to crafting exceptional wines.
Under the recent guidance of Luca Currado Vietti, the winery ascended to become one of Piedmont’s finest producers. Highly sought-after, their wines boast exceptional quality and interesting label designs: in 1970, Alfredo and Luciana began supporting local artists, transforming labels into true masterpieces. Featuring renowned names like Gianni Gallo and Janet Fish, this art series has expanded Vietti wines’ reach to a broader audience, including a show at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
In 2023, four generations of Vietti family ownership ended as the Krause family became the new custodians.
Its 35 hectares produce Nebbiolo and Barbera from limestone and clay soil. After fermenting in steel tanks, Barolo is aged for 24 months in large Slavonian oak casks and bottled without filtration. For Cru Barolos, there’s an additional six months of ageing in smaller oak barriques.
