Tasting Notes
JancisRobinson.com 16.5
68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot. Cabernet Sauvignon is grown on biotite and granite soils; Merlot on richer, well-drained clay; Cabernet Franc on very well-drained, stony Vilafontes soil; Petit Verdot on Oakleaf 3 soils with a northerly aspect to ensure full phenolic ripeness. Each variety was fermented separately before undergoing malolactic fermentation in 300-litre barrels, 60% new French Nevers and 40% second-fill casks. After 8 months in barrel, the components were blended and given another 10 months in barrel for harmonisation before bottling. Bright, glowing ruby colour and some good development even if it’s just slightly austere, but well composed and subtler than most South African bordeaux blends. Not expensive!
