Tasting Notes

35% whole-bunch fermented. Aged in oak barrels (40% new) for 16 months. Cask sample. Black cherry and bramble fruit. Digestible tannins, refreshing acidic lift, but the complexity is pretty limited. One of the least forthcoming 2017s. For the backburner. (RH)

The 2017 Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Les Malconsorts offers up aromas of earthy currant fruit and spicy new oak, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample wine that’s both chewy and open-knit. It falls short of what one expects of a Malconsorts.

The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Les Malconsorts 1er Cru has a clean, pure bouquet of black cherries, blueberry and a touch of vanilla. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, fine weight in the mouth and a touch of sour cherry that enlivens the detailed finish. I have encountered better vintages of Bichot’s Malconsorts in the past.
