The Roumier domain is one of the oldest established domains in the Côte d’Or. The Domain was established in the early 20th century by George Roumier and has been passed down through several generations. It is currently managed by Christophe Roumier, who took over from his father, Jean-Marie Roumier, in the late 1980s.
Roumier’s vineyard holdings are primarily located in Chambolle-Musigny, with a focus on Premier Cru and Grand Cru sites. Some of their most esteemed vineyards include Bonnes-Mares, Musigny, Les Amoureuses, and Les Cras. The domain practices organic viticulture, avoiding the use of herbicides or pesticides. Roumier employs traditional winemaking techniques in the cellar, where the wines are fermented with natural yeasts in French oak barrels.
Domaine Georges Roumier is esteemed for its commitment to quality, respect for terroir, and the production of exceptional Burgundy wines. Its most iconic wines are ‘The Musigny’ and ‘Les Amoureuses’, which are highly sought after and thus command premium prices in the market. They only produce 4300 cases per year, so finding it can be challenging! The average price for the finest bottles from Domaine George Roumier is around £1500 per bottle, but it’s possible to find premier cru bottles of Roumier for only a few hundred pounds.
