Tasting Notes
Robert Parker 94
Tasted blind at Farr Vintners Kumeu/White Burgundy tasting. The nose on the 2012 Maté’s Vineyard Chardonnay has more intensity and complexity than the 2010: very detailed and harmonious with limestone, nettle and citrus lemon notes. The palate is fresh and poised with lime and green apple, very well-judged acidity with a linear, Chablis-like finish that is an absolute joy. This is an outstanding Maté’s Chardonnay, perhaps the best that Kumeu River produced that year.
Anticipated maturity: 2015-2030
Vinous 93/100
The 2012 Maté’s Vineyard Chardonnay has a much more expressive bouquet than the 2011 at the moment, offering vivacious yellow plum, mineral, flint and smoke aromas that gain momentum with aeration. The poised, focused palate is very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity and real precision toward the detailed finish. This is a very sophisticated New World Chardonnay. Tasted at the Kumeu River Chardonnay vertical in London.
Anticipated maturity: 2019-2034
