Vinous 90

Bright medium red. Musky redcurrant and plum aromas are complicated by game and leather nuances. Sweet and fine-grained, offering rich flavors of red and purple fruits. This elegant, concentrated village wine is already delicious but has the backbone to evolve gracefully. [Stephen Tanzer, 03/01/2015]

The 2012 Gevrey Chambertin from the talented Arnaud Mortet seemed a little bashful on the nose, but with aeration it reveals attractive blackberry and wild strawberry scents that are well defined, just a touch of sous-bois with further opening. The palate is medium-bodied with rounded ripe tannin, plenty of bold dark cherry and raspberry fruit that exerts a gentle grip. The acidity is well judged here and there is a finesse on the finish above Village Cru quality. This is simply excellent. [01/08/2015]
