Opus One is one of Napa Valley’s most renowned and iconic
wineries. It’s a joint venture between two renowned wine families, the late Baron
Philippe de Rothschild of Château Mouton Rothschild in Bordeaux, France, and
Robert Mondavi of Napa Valley, California.

Established in 1979, the winery’s mission was to create a Bordeaux-style blend
in the heart of Napa Valley, combining the best of both Old World and New World
winemaking traditions. Rothschild and Mondavi’s paths first crossed in a
glamorous encounter during a holiday in Hawaii, where they discussed setting
the stage for an extraordinary partnership in the world of wine. Originally known
as ‘Napamedoc’, the wine was rebranded as Opus One in 1982.

During the 1990s, Opus One rose to cult status as it gained widespread
popularity in Asia and Europe. The winery’s commitment to excellence is
reflected in its limited production, careful hand-harvesting, and meticulous
winemaking techniques. It has the distinction of being a certified green winery
under the Napa Valley Vintners’ ‘Napa Green Initiative’. Embracing
sustainability, the estate has adopted over 100 environmentally-friendly practices,
demonstrating its commitment to eco-conscious winemaking.

The 78 hectares in the Oakville AVA yield Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by
Bordeaux varietals, including Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec.
The wine then undergoes an 18-month ageing process in 100% new French barrels,
followed by an additional 18 months of ageing in bottle before release.

Its exceptional profile and outstanding quality have solidified Opus One as one
of California’s most distinguished and finest wines, an epitome of luxury and
elegance, captivating wine enthusiasts and collectors worldwide.
