Since 1843, six generations of the Krug family have been at the helm of Krug Champagne, but Joseph Krug’s original philosophy remains unchanged: making the very best champagne possible, every year, regardless of annual climate variations. This philosophy and commitment to perfection make Krug the most recognized champagne house in the region.
Krug only owns 30% of the vineyards that produce its wines: Clos du Menil (chardonnay) and Clos d’Ambonnay (pinot noir) are the two principal vineyards they own, which produce two exceptional Blanc de Blanc cuvées. The rest of Krug’s grapes come from long-term contract growers in the region.
The masterpiece of Krug is considered the ‘Grande Cuvée’, a multi-vintage blend that represents the ultimate expression of Krug’s artistry. Krug maintains a relatively limited production to ensure the highest level of quality and exclusivity. These champagnes are remarkable for their ageing potential. Krug champagne is highly regarded and sought after which can make it challenging to get your hands on! On average, a standard-sized bottle (750ml) of Krug Grande Cuvée starts at around £250 on the market. Vintage Krug Champagnes and special editions can command higher prices, often exceeding several hundred dollars, or even reaching into the thousands for rare and older vintages.
