Tasting Notes
Robert Parker 92
The dark ruby-colored 1999 Charmes-Chambertin has mouth-watering, red cherry syrup aromas. Medium-bodied and pure, it is polished, seamless, and highly concentrated. This profound, candied wine is also decadent and opulently styled. Drink it over the next 8-9 years.
Anticipated maturity: 2001-2010
Vinous 87
(from Mazoyères-Chambertin; aged in two-thirds new oak): Medium red with an unfiltered appearance. Wild, leathery nose shows a strong oak component and a slightly tired note of mocha (this may have been a special selection earmarked for North Berkeley Imports, which typically opted for a higher percentage of new oak, if not 100%, according to Frédéric Magnien). Supple but fully evolved, showing a touch of maderization and beginning to dry out. Finishes with a hint of marzipan. Much less fresh than the Domaine Michel Magnien Morey-Saint-Denis Les Chaffots, which is enticing and brisk.
Anticipated maturity: 2018-2018
