Tasting Notes
Robert Parker 94
Deep garnet with a brick rim. Very pure aromas of warm cassis, kirsch and dried lavender over a touch of truffles and game. The power of the palate is in the taut structure of medium +, fine grained tannins and medium to high acidity, fleshed-out by generous rich fruit. Very long finish. Beautiful balance.

Very sunny vintage. 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 51% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc. Most muscular wine of the last 20 years. Deep garnet. Really quite floral (violets and floral dried herbs) but also lots of dark fruit. Very firm and muscular and dense. Powerful but still aromatic. Some dried fruits, even a savoury dark toffee/molasses note. Also cedary and fresh and cigar box. Slight dustiness. Really firm, tannins a little dry on the finish and more liquorice as it opens up. Not ready yet. (JH)

Vinous 90
Red-ruby color. Lower-pitched, redder aromas of plum, redcurrant and mulberry. Soft, sweet and lush, with an enticing layered texture and plenty of body. Currently more expressive in the middle palate than the ’96 but not quite as sharply delineated; conveys an impression of lower acidity. Finishes with very good length and even, ripe tannins. This gentle, ripe, seductive wine seems virtually unaffected by the bottling.
