Tasting Notes
Robert Parker 95
Aside from Chateau Lafleur, the 1982 Leoville Las Cases must be the most unevolved, primary wine of the vintage. Offering up aromas of cassis, black truffle and loamy soil, it’s full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with a richly layered mid-palate, ripe acids, velvety but abundant tannins and a long, resonant finish. Impressive for its power and purity, this is a serious, complete wine that is only finally beginning to show all its cards as it approaches aged 40.

Sadly, it is not a great night for Bordeaux. The 1982 Léoville Las Cases is powerful but also incredibly compact, with little appeal or mid-palate depth. This is a very stubborn wine, even within the context of Las Cases.

Deep rusty ruby. Very firm and intense and pure on the nose. Almost a decongestant it’s so direct! Lots of acidity on the palate though. The nose is so much more alluring than the palate! Very dry/drying finish. For smelling not drinking. Let’s see if it mellows during the evening… (It did not.)
