NV Cellar Essentials: 6 Racy Reds: Malbec, Piedmont and Bordeaux 6x75cl

2x 2014 Château Mauvesin Barton, Moulis en Medoc: A classic Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, Le Haut-Medoc de Mauvesin Barton is a full-bodied, complex wine with... notes of blackberry, cassis and tobacco. The bold flavours of the wine and the tannins will go well with roast beef, lamb or duck. Serving suggestion: Open 1-2 hours before drinking. 2x 2020 Cristian Boffa, Langhe, Nebbiolo: Now is the perfect time to discover Cristian Boffa, the next big talent of Barolo. Boffa’s wines come from one of the great communes beside the great epicentre of Barolo itself: La Morra. We think he’s the next big thing in the region. The quality of his wines could easily justify asking prices two or three times the current level. Burgundian in style, and very elegant, his Barolo sits with the skins for 25 days in stainless steel. Lamb cooked pink works with this slightly lighter Barolo. Serving suggestion: Remove from fridge and open 1-2 hours before drinking. 2x 2018 Hijo Prodigo, La Consulta Malbec Reserva: This Malbec from the Uco Valley in Mendoza has a dense purple colour and offers wonderfully complex aromas of plum, blackberry, sour cherry and blueberry rounded off by vanilla and chocolate. It’s a dry wine with good balance, powerful and dense. Drink this red wine from Argentina with roast beef, liver and onions, stuffed peppers or Boeuf Bourguignon. Serving suggestion: Serve at 15 - 18 °C.

Cellar Essentials: 6 Winsome Whites: Pinot Grigio, Burgundy and Piedmont

2x 2016/2018 Marjan Simcic, Pinot Grigio, Goriška Brda: "It’s hard to believe this is pinot grigio. It is as rich and structured as a great white Burgundy. Full and dense yet fresh. Shows so... much dried apple and tropical fruit. Creamy texture. Strong finish." 93 points, James Suckling This wine will pair well with chicken, fish, shellfish, or can be enjoyed on its own. Serving suggestion: Remove from fridge and open 1 hour before drinking. 2x 2018/2020 Domaine Frantz Chagnoleau, Saint-Veran, Prélude: This Chardonnay comes from 4 locations where the grapes ripened early. The winemaker waits for the instant the fruit is just ripe, but still balanced, before picking. Exhibiting aromas of pear, blanched almonds, white flowers and peach, the Saint-Véran Prélude is medium to full-bodied, with a soft core of fruit, lively acids and a saline finish. This is a delicious wine that is very easy to love, with just enough weight and richness in the middle. A smart wine that will not disappoint. Try with seafood risotto or pasta with mushrooms. Serving suggestion: Open 1 hour before drinking. 2x 2020 Bruno Giacosa, Roero, Arneis: ‘The Giacosa family does a great job with its high-end wines and its entry-level products alike. The 2020 Roero Arneis is a great example of a wine that knocks out simplicity while maintaining a great sense of inner freshness and complexity. This was a great vintage for the popular Arneis white grape that shows a wide range of tropical perfumes with papaya, citrus and Williams pear.’ 93 points Robert Parker The 'Arneis' white grape variety is native to Piedmont. This wine bursts with soft citrus characters, pineapples and peaches with a zesty, mineral acidity. Pair with antipasti, white fish, pasta, asparagus and vegetarian dishes. Serving suggestion: Remove from fridge and open 1 hour before drinking.

Dinner Party Drinks: Premium Mixed Case

Pierre Moncuit, Delos Grand Cru: The Non-Vintage Delos Grand Cru is a very pure expression of Chardonnay (Blanc de Blancs). Delicately scented with notes of apple and pear alongside wonderful... mineral intensity and elegance. ‘Moncuit is one of those growers I never hear much about, and yet the wines are consistently outstanding and delicious… The Delos Blanc de Blancs is one of the great values in Champagne.’ Antonio Galloni, 93 points. Serving suggestion: The ideal temperature for a bottle of Champagne is between about 8-10°C. Put the bottle in an ice bucket half filled with water and ice, from 20 to 30 minutes before serving. 2x 2018/2020 Domaine Frantz Chagnoleau, Saint-Veran, Prélude: This Chardonnay comes from 4 locations where the grapes ripened early. Lamb cooked pink works with this slightly lighter Barolo. Serving suggestion: Remove from fridge and open 1-2 hours before drinking. 2013 Château Doisy-Vedrines 2eme Cru Classe, Barsac: 'This French dessert wine is yellow-gold, with subtle aromas of yellow plum, green papaya and mint. Very fresh and then pure and powerful, with a silky texture and subtle, crisp flavors of lemon, lime, apple and caramelized ginger. Very hard to resist.’ Ian D’Agata, 90-93 points. Serve chilled. Pair with seafood dishes, roast chicken, or slightly spicy or sweet pork, spicy Asian cuisine, and hard or soft cheese. Very versatile.
