The family motto for the estate is Roagna non cambia – ‘Roagna does not change’. While there have, under Luca Roagna, been minor tweaks to grape handling, the family continues to prize traditional methods over modern mores: true to its motto, winemaking at Roagna is as it has been for 120 years. The result is a very special range of wines, one considered unique in Piedmont, as the current release of the 2012 vintage more than shows. Blessed with exceptional focus, freshness and exhilarating perfumes, these are our kind of wines - and they age beautifully. We’d go as far as to say that Roagna is just the kind of estate to become Italy’s next Giacomo Conterno. ‘Quality,’ writes famed Italian critic Antonio Galloni, ‘has never been higher here.’ Long may it continue.
