‘A wine of real distinction and class…in a word: Superb.’
Antonio Galloni

Its ‘ode to autumn’ season – and the wonderful time of the year to begin opening the really classy, interesting reds. Chateau Feytit-Clinet is one of our favourite Pomerols and Pomerol is one of our favourite wines simple as that! And with today’s 2017 you have a wine that is open for business and whose innate complexity and ‘autumn leaves’ and ‘game and smoke’ notes comingle perfectly to fit the season.

Feytit-Clinet is a small estate of just under 7 hectares producing only about 1200 cases for the world annually. Owners the Chasseuil family took back control from a certain Moueix operation back in 2000 and the wines have been on the up ever since.  Reducing yields and taking advantage of the clay and gravel that excites the great Pomerol owners the family have pushed quality onwards and upwards. It really is clay that maketh a great Pomerol and Feytit-Clinet which is situated towards the west of the plateau close to Clinet and Clos L’Eglise exhibits the features that makes Pomerol uniquely special with a few years age.

Noted as ‘flat-out stunning – one of the wines of the vintage’, 2017 Feytit-Clinet shows that this vintage to be very close in quality to its predecessor – but at a wildly attractive price in comparison. Available at under £400 for a full case of 12, the 2016 will set you back £700 and upwards. It is a serious, high quality Bordeaux bargain to consider.

The naturally softer tannin and balance of 2017 vintage allied to that alluring, gorgeous Pomerol minerality – think freshly-tilled soil, an almost Gevrey Chambertin-like ‘sous bois’ character make this a stand out at 9 years old. There is nonetheless great lift and exuberance to the dark berry and plum fruit in this wine with a wonderful floral quality.  Deep, creamy fruit – violet tinged, berries abound with nice freshness running through its core. It is Pomerol through and through and it is beginning to hit its stride.

Drinking perfectly now and for another 15 years. Grab a case at this price and get FREE mainland UK delivery. Its the ‘stuff dreams are made of’. Don’t miss it’  says old Antonio Galloni!

‘The 2017 Feytit-Clinet is flat-out stunning, and also one of the wines of the vintage. An exotic mélange of blackberry jam, graphite, game, smoke, licorice and espresso builds in an explosive Pomerol endowed with tremendous verticality and power. As always, Feytit-Clinet is an especially somber Pomerol. Its textural finesse, personality and pure bred intensity are the stuff dreams are made of. Don’t miss it. Drink 2022-2037.’

‘A blend of 93% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc, the 2017 Feytit Clinet sports a deep garnet-purple color. The nose boasts bold Black Forest cake, blackberry compote and plum preserves notes with nuances of chocolate box, violets and fallen leaves. The full-bodied palate has a gorgeous texture of plush, fine-grained tannins and plenty of zing lifting the decadent black fruit flavors, finishing long and savory. It is quite delicious now, but I’d give it another year or two in bottle to really impress. Drink 2021-2040.’

‘A wine of real distinction and class, the 2017 Feytit-Clinet possesses tremendous intensity and exceptional balance. Inky black cherry, lavender, charred earth and licorice, along with potent tannins, give Feytit-Clinet its explosive rich personality. As always, Feytit-Clinet is an especially virile, tannic Pomerol. All the elements are wonderfully fused together. The 2017 was tremendous on each of the three occasions I tasted it. In a word: Superb.’
