‘a stunning , expansive and unmistakably grand wine’

‘… a nod to Comtes de Champagne?!’
Jancis Robinson MW
Its ‘ode to autumn’ season. And while the second of our offers this week is strikingly different to the first one from Pomerol, hailing as it does from the Garden of England, Domaine Evremond Edition 2 is nevertheless as fresh and bright as an autumn morning. A rare beauty.
Having tasted this supremely elegant wine just last evening, we are delighted to announce the supremely elegant progression evident in this already storied new project. It is one that shows the difference a further year makes in vine age and also the knowledge and expertise that comes in getting to know a terroir.
Domaine Evremond is an exceptional English sparkling wine project now 11 years in the making, the result of a significant investment by Champagne Taittinger and the new release takes this category to new levels of finesse. Jancis Robinson notes a ‘nod to Comtes de Champagne’ – Taittinger’s luxury cuvee, while we loved the interplay of expansive rich flavours with an unmistakeable zest and flintiness of an English home.
Based ten miles to the west of Canterbury in Chilham, Taittinger were the first of the Champagne houses to make such an investment, creating headlines around the world. At a stroke the worldwide reputation, confidence and potential of English Sparkling wine was boosted. Their purpose built winery, opened by HRH The Duchess of Edinburgh, might well be viewed as the new epicentre of English wine.
Domaine Evremond benefits from ideal growing conditions on chalk and flint soils, in naturally sheltered south and southwest-facing slopes, the perfect location for this ambitious project. It remains the only such ‘entente cordiale’ affair to have been started from scratch. The expertise and sheer attention to detail is apparent in every detail. The vineyard is meticulously managed by Taittinger’s Director of Viticulture, Christelle Rinville with help from the land’s former owner, Mark Gaskaine. They have a large team comprising pickers, agronomists et al with generations of local expertise. The winemaking is led by their Director of Winemaking, the hands-on Alexandre Ponnavo. Evremond’s every grape is hand picked and this meticulous quality shows in the new release.
Domaine Evremond Classic Cuvée Edition 2 is a multi-vintage blend of 65% Pinot Noir, 25% Chardonnay, and 10% Pinot Meunier aged for over three years on lees, allowing it to develop complexity and elegance. Early tastings have already earned the wine high praise for its balance, freshness, and finesse. The late and much missed Matthew Jukes’ wonderful tasting note gives a flavour of what you can expect.
Best wishes,
Brunswick Team.

‘…I tasted Domaine Evremond’s spectacular ‘Edition 2 ‘, which in itself is a stunning , expansive and unmistakably grand wine. It is hard to believe, but it builds considerably on the first release, and I can’t explain why or how it has gathered so much finesse.’
Matthew Jukes – June 2026
‘Second release of this Taittinger project in Kent, this time 80% based on the cooler, wetter 2021 vintage rather than the 2020. Rounded out by some 2020 and a little 2019. A bit more Pinot Noir this time, 65% rather than the debut release’s 55%. Chardonnay portion reduced from 35% to 25%. Each cuvée contains 10% Pinot Meunier, is aged three years on lees and has a dosage of 7 g/l, but of course this second edition has presumably benefited from a year’s more vine age.
Surprisingly rich, creamy nose – a nod to Comtes de Champagne?! Much broader than Edition I, arguably less refreshing in fact, but a wine for food perhaps? (It’s not to be released for a few months.) So ripe, I’m not sure I would guess it was English if served it blind. The nose is already quite complex – amazingly so for an unreleased wine! Drink 2026-2030.’
