** Today is World Vermouth Day **Vermouth is back in fashion in a big way, and here at Brunswick, we're celebrating by bringing you two examples of this versatile fortified wine.- Cocchi Vermouth di Torino, which was voted the best vermouth for negronis by The Independent in 2022, and- Cocchi Americano, created in 1891 by Giulio Cocchi and produced using the same recipe ever since. The name 'Americano' comes from the American habit at the time of drinking vermouth with ice and soda. and from 'amer' meaning bitter, which is the effect of the herbs and spices.Vermouth is a fortified, aromatised wine flavoured with herbs, botanicals, and spices, and is usually consumed as an aperitif, due to its traditionally bittersweet character. The combination of botanicals that go into the bottle is what set different vermouths apart, and it tends to be a closely-guarded secret. Many vermouth devotees swear by a simple spritz. Pour over plenty of ice, top with soda, then garnish with an orange wedge or Nocerella olive. But it also features in many a classic cocktail: think negroni, martini, or Manhattan. However you drink it, you should have at least one of these in your bar at home! Cheers! 🍸
